Arun Mangrulkar is a composer for visual media, hornist, and pianist. He began studying piano at an early age, picking up the horn in middle school. Arun saw much success in his early horn career, a highlight of which included winning the annual MSBOA high school soloist competition two years in a row. During his college career, Arun held professional positions with numerous orchestras including the Dearborn Symphony, Michigan Philharmonic, and Rochester Symphony.
Arun developed a love for film music in early childhood. In his pursuit of an undergraduate program, the goal of becoming a film composer, no matter how unlikely given the lack of compositional education, was a paramount priority. The University of Michigan, consequently, stood out for its unique opportunities offered to students to explore and forge their own paths, which did not seem as viable at potential alternative conservatories.
Sure enough, in his second year at Michigan, Arun forged a connection with the Department of Film, Television, and Media. Since then he has scored eight films in collaboration with the department. This has led to external opportunities, including composing themes for multiple podcasts and a film music internship at Lionsgate Studios in 2019.
