During her time at Michigan, soprano and librettist Jennifer Cresswell has been heard regionally and virtually as Der Trommler in Der Kaiser von Atlantis (University of Michigan), Magda Sorel in The Consul (Opera MODO), Cropper Woman in Grapes of Wrath (Michigan Opera Theatre), and in the groundbreaking new opera, Interstate, for which Dr. Cresswell served as co-librettist with Kathleen Kelly, with music by Kamala Sankaram. In addition to these operatic credits, she has also been featured as a soloist with the Toledo Symphony, in concerts featuring the music of George Gershwin and Kurt Weill with tenor George Shirley, in recital with Kathleen Kelly, and as soloist for David Lang’s Simple Song #3 with the University Philharmonia Orchestra at Hill Auditorium. In all areas of performance, Jennifer is dedicated to singing in her native tongue and finding the beauty and humanity in otherwise unsympathetic characters. This passion inspired her latest endeavor as co-founder of GDQ Arts, a non-profit production company centered on telling women’s stories through sung theater.
