Kurt Melendy is receiving his specialist degree in Music Performance on the Double Bass. He was able to meet all the requirements for this two-year program in only a single year. In 2020, he completed master of music degrees in double bass performance and chamber music.
Kurt has taken a keen interest in teaching and composing during his studies. This past year he virtually worked with the Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra as the bass section coach teaching works by Beethoven, Coleridge-Taylor, and Dvorak. In his free time, he has been working on composing chamber music and solo works for the double bass. His most recent project is titled, In the Garden, Eight Botanical Solos for the double bass.
Kurt decided to continue his studies and auditioned to be considered for a Doctoral Program at several universities this past year. He has been accepted to a few strong programs and is currently deciding which university will be the best fit for him.
For the summer, Kurt plans on continuing his work with teaching and composing, and has offered his availability to volunteer for the International Society of Bassists.
