Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Gerace is a trombonist, educator, and composer. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, he is set to begin work on a master’s degree in jazz performance at New England Conservatory in the fall. Gerace’s time at U-M has been highlighted by opportunities to play with musicians such as Wycliffe Gordon, Charles McPherson, and Regina Carter. Taught by Prof. Dennis Wilson, Michael’s lead playing and improvisation opened many doors and opportunities to gig and work in a variety of scenes. As an educator, Michael has worked with students of all skills levels, encouraging growth and an enthusiastic approach to learning. In studying with Prof.Ellen Rowe, Michael has worked to write compositions that explore texture and melody.
