Nick Balla is receiving a Master of Music in band & wind ensemble conducting. Originally from Missouri, Nick holds a Bachelor of Science in electronic arts/audio studies and a Bachelor of Music Education from Missouri State University. While at U-M, Nick served as a graduate student instructor with the Michigan Marching Band, as well as an undergraduate conducting course. Before attending the University of Michigan, Nick taught for five years in Missouri for the Lebanon School District as an assistant band director and low brass specialist. At Lebanon, Nick expanded the chamber music program through the creation of permanent brass ensembles and received grants for a music library extension. Nick held a large low brass private studio in Southwest Missouri and served as a trombone adjudicator across the state. Nick plans to stay at the University of Michigan to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts in band & wind ensemble conducting with his mentor, Prof. Michael Haithcock.
