Rafael Marques has performed with several professional ensembles throughout the United States and Brazil, including the Grammy-nominated ensemble True Concord Orchestra in Tucson, AZ, LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, Tatuí Symphonic Band (formerly Brazilian Wind Orchestra), and he also played with members of the L.A. Philharmonic, L.A. Opera, and the Tucson, Minnesota, London, and São Paulo Symphony Orchestras. Marques also performed with the Tucson Jazz Collective and many internationally recognized jazz artists such as Terell Stafford, Joe Lovano, Byron Stripling, Becca Stevens, Andre Hayward, and Warren Wolf. During his tenure as a master’s student at the University of Michigan, he studied with David L. Jackson and performed as principal trombone for the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and with the internationally acclaimed Michigan Symphony Band under the direction of Michael Haithcock. Marques received his BM from the University of Arizona and has been a finalist in important competitions such as the American Trombone Workshop Trombone Quartet Competition in Washington D.C. (2018) and winner of the Tatuí Music Conservatory Chamber Music Competition in Brazil (2014). Marques is also an avid music educator who wants to inspire his students to achieve their full potential, explore their creativity, think critically, and serve as a role model within their community.
