Ryan Hirokawa is an oboist originally from Honolulu, HI. Currently based primarily in Ann Arbor, MI, Ryan has performed as a member of the University of Michigan Symphony Band, Philharmonia Orchestra, and in various chamber groups. He has also attended the Marrowstone Music Festival, where he performed as part of the Festival Orchestra.

Along with performing, Ryan is very passionate about teaching and giving back to the music community in Hawaii. In the summer, Ryan works for the Kaimuki Middle School Band, where he conducts sectionals and rehearsals. He has also taught as an assistant oboe clinician at the Pacific Music Institute, a summer music camp for middle and high school students run by the Hawaii Youth Symphony.

In the fall, Ryan will be pursuing a Master of Music from the University of Texas at Austin, where he will study with Andrew Parker, and serve as the teaching assistant for the oboe studio. He is thankful for his time at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance. Ryan’s primary teachers were Nancy Ambrose-King and Susan Ochi-Onishi.
